Melbourne cement truck accident: Woman critical after being dragged 200m
A woman has been dragged 200 metres underneath a cement mixer in inner Melbourne and is now fighting for her life in hospital.
She was struck on Jolimont Road near the Melbourne Cricket Ground at around 10:30am (AEST) on Thursday.
Police said the woman is in her 30s or 40s and has been taken to the Alfred Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Senior Sergeant Stephen Wilson from Victoria Police said the driver of the cement mixer was unaware he had hit someone until he was flagged down by another motorist who had spotted the woman under the truck.
"We're not sure as to exactly how she was crossing, where she was positioned on the road, we just know that she'd been struck by the truck and was carried under the truck for over 200 metres," Senior Sergeant Wilson said.
"It's really unusual. It's probably one of the worst, from a pedestrian collision [incident] that I think I've ever attended."
He said the driver of the truck was "pretty traumatised".
"He's pretty shaken up and he was crying when I first spoke to him," Senior Sergeant Wilson said.
"He came running up to me the moment I pulled up. I was actually heading up to a meeting and... he came running to me, so he was pretty upset."
Police have appealed for any witnesses to the accident to call Crime Stoppers or Melbourne Highway Patrol.
GHARO: At least 16 people were wounded in a road accident when a bus collided with a truck near Gharo on Sunday, Bol Taunsa reported.
According to sources, the passengers of the bus were headed towards Kalri Lake, also known as Keenjhar Lake, for a picnic when their vehicle crashed into an oncoming truck due to excessive speeding.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot after receiving information of the incident. The wounded were shifted to Gharo for medical attention.
Police has started the investigation of the incident.

SWAT: At least 16 people were reported dead and seven other sustained injuries, when a truck plunged down into Swat River in Pishmal locality on Tuesday morning, Aaj News reported.
The sources revealed that the truck which fell down in the river was en route from Mingora to Kalam.
The bodies and the injured were immediately shifted to Kalam hospital.
